2018 The Plan

I’m about to take a Christmas break, so expect less new content on this site until just after Christmas. When I return, I’ll be more then doubling the content amounts that 2017 saw, as I expand on what 2017 brought to Stuffhere Projects!

Please note, the Stuffhere Projects store Thrifty P will of course continue to operate as normal, and if you order before the 19th December delivery is still guaranteed to reach you in time for Christmas Day!

All other services offered by Stuffhere Projects still remain active.

When I do return with more content, a fair amount will be focused on plans for 2018, including from a business perspective but also from a more personal one.

I’m not just thinking about literal plans here; plans for holidays, plans of what to buy, project plans etc. But plans from an inner place, if you catch my drift. How I am going to try and develop myself and apply that through all the more literal things I hope to be doing such as the various projects.

But for now, I want to thank you so much for you company and support in 2017 and wish you all A Very Merry Christmas and the Best New Year Yet!

Cafe Romford

The book I am currently reading is¬†Personal a¬†Jack Reacher novel.¬†¬†I have in particular been looking forward to reading this Lee Child’s book as a large part of it is set in Romford.¬†If you do not know, I have spent most of my life in and around this famous town.

The reason why I mention the above is because I was looking forward to seeing what M.r Reacher would make of our ‘humble’ town and how Lee Child would describe it. Now I am only just a few chapters in, but so far the descriptions of the town are accurate. Lee Child was born in the UK, and likely may of visited good old Romford at some point, and even if he had not, he always does top notch research for his books.

I recently got to a part where Reacher and partner are hungry (‘always eat when you can’) and the food places available in Romford were described as being full of fast food places such as pizza and of course chicken. That is of course very accurate. We can not move without bumping in to a chicken shop in Romford. There are I think even more chicken and chip shops in Romford then Fish and Chip shops. Reacher and partner decide to opt for the pizza option. They do, in another part of the book spend sometime in a cafe, and in my imagination it was one down the high street, a small turning by¬†Maplin. That was just in my imagination and the name was not specified.

Now Reacher fans will know, he loves a good cafe. As an American he likes what they would call a Diner, or perhaps in particular a Greasy Spoon. Now why it is true Romford is full of fast food outlets, it would be a dis-service to the town to just think of it in that way-we have an abundance of great cafes. And, I do hope as the book progresses Reacher explores more of them, as we really have some gems here.

And that is what I thought I’d do. I’ll be featuring content based around the cafes of Romford every so often. Starting with¬†Poppins!

At Last a Saturday Night TV Winner!

Time to give credit in TV land, where credit in TV land is due!

That credit is for Michael McIntyre’s Big Show.

Well I mean I have been thinking for a while that this show has been a big improvement to the usual prime time Saturday UK schedule ,but now its reached its third series, the format and presenter have settled even more in a Saturday Night Winner!

Since the nineties, Saturday night schedules here in the UK have really lacked a great prime time show with universal appeal. The kind that offers some comedy, maybe a variety act, audience participation and some music.

The only one that has been a major player in recent years would be Ant & Decs Saturday Night Takeaway. They hit the nail on the head with that one, and there is a reason why it has been going as long as it has. But that show can not be on every Saturday and its an ITV show. What about the BBC’s offering?

Which brings us back to Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, where the man of the title and the whole team really deserve a big thumbs up. The show has a presenter who is funny, good with people, plenty of personality and energy. Which is what is needed to carry a good format, something this show delivers on with that its fun audience interactions, music, games and stand up. Particular highlights include the Unexpected Star and Send To All segments. Some shows receive other amusing audience’s (unknowingly) participation with for example last weeks inspired Karaoke bit.

The show has also helped cement M.r McIntyre’s road to being a solid all-rounder presenter for light entertainment.

You could see that the powers that be saw his potential as more then just a stand up with how they tried him out in different formats such as his own chat show. But you can tell ‘The Big Show¬†is his winning fit.

I look forward to the rest of this all too short series, which will include a Christmas special.

What are your thoughts on the show?

I had been thinking for a while now about doing some Podcasts. I had a number of subjects I had been wanting to get down, and I think some of them would suit the format of a podcast. For now I’ll upload them to YouTube and in time I might look for pure podcast websites and upload them their too.

So the subjects for the podcasts? Well, I have quite a few! Some might just be random-ish ‘whatever-is-on-my-mind-at-the-time’ (that’s a scary prospect) type of thing. But some will be on going series’-most of which will tie in with my Ongoing Projects.

I’m not sure which series will be uploaded first, but it will likely be one related to #gainingXP, like my #vocalChance series.

Updates will be added here as and when new editions are uploaded. Love to have you on board, and love  to have your feedback.

Until next time,

Holby City Epic 2 Parter with Paul McGann

I love a bit of Holby City me. If you are not aware of Holby City, it is a medical drama that, here in the UK airs every Tuesday night at 8pm. It is a spin off from another long running and very popular medical drama on BBC1: Casualty.

Holby City Title Credits

In the UK, a large amount of the continuing drama focus is on EastEnders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks. Now those soaps are on up to 6 days a week unlike Holby and they explore a broader range of subjects whereas of course Holby is medical based (although the love lives of the staff certainty take centre stage). So perhaps it is best not to count Holby City in exactly the same camp. But it should not be ignored either and often deserves as much, maybe at times more recognition then the previously mentioned other shows.

And we have two special episodes to look forward to on December 5th and December 7th. Here’s an interesting promo shot:

Holby CIty Promo Photo

Not much detail is revealed about what big event goes down (which is how I like it) but it is said to be Holby City’s darkest hour, and whatever does go down will be huge.

Maybe the dark aspect is to be quite literal and they loose power and have to operate in the darkness. But I expect there will be darkness of another kind, as by the way the above characters are shown, it looks like they facing some kind of physical threat-maybe an intruder causing trouble?

Who is that holding open the door, offering a form of light? Well it is none other then John Gaskell played by Paul McGann. Paul McGann could well be a a very good asset to the show, having proved himself in many roles including of course a certain other kind of Doctor. Also interestingly, his real life brother plays a doctor in another show, in another time zone, in Call The Midwive.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing the drama unfold and here’s a trailer released by the BBC earlier to help wet your appetite.

Become Your True Selfie!

I was confused about a title of a This Morning video in my YouTube feed, today. After watching though, I understood the story, and its an interesting one. It raises some points that are certainty worth giving thought to, in this modern age.

I was trying to work out how you could make yourself more like your selfie, as you are your selfie already, if you see what I mean. But the situation is that the lady being interviewed by Holly and Phil had surgery to make herself look more like her photos with filters.

You know how some apps allow certain facial features to be altered, in this case the nose, and this particular lady had surgery to have her nose more thinned out, like the results of the app. Trying to make herself look more like her edited version became an obsession, causing her to scrimp and save money in order to meet that goal. She had been suffering from what is known as ‘selfie dysmorphia’.

You can see the video here:

Some people may scoff that this is a new condition that has just been invented, and is just really people being a bit vain. But I think that
it is unfair to generalise in that way, and while some people’s obsession and the lengths they will go to for achieving a certain look, sometimes could be down to vanity, its worth remembering that sometimes it could be something more. Like so many issues with how we look on the outside, it is often linked to something going on inside.

It was in the closing words of this video that this lady said something that got me thinking. She was commenting about how some people who are addicted to taking loads of selfies all the time, could actually be doing it due to self esteem issues. And that those obsessed with snapping themselves may be suffering from anxiety issues. The pressure one could put on themselves to look great, ‘perfect’ in every photo can have negative implications.

Perhaps this context could be related to how in the past it was said how people could become obsessed with looking in their mirror constantly and spotting imperfections, and wanting to change them. Now many may be doing this with their mobile phones (something most carry with them even more then a mirror), spotting their so called imperfections in their camera, then adding filters to cover over what they don’t like. But what if one decides they prefer their unnatural filtered self?

Selfie photo outside.

Part of the problem can be linked to where these selfies mostly end up: social media. Wanting to always have a ‘perfect’ photo on our profiles and in how streams for our viewers to see. The young lady featured decided to take a break from social media to help combat this. It could certainty be reason to take a break from social media every once in a while.

The key thing that I take from this is how important it is that we learn to love all the great things about our own individual looks, for their are many. We often do not see them mind, because we are to busy trying to ‘fix’ what we do not like.

Filters can be fun and helpful to achieve a certain look in a photo. But they can never improve on the original, real you. When I look at another person’s face, not through any screen, I get to see your best selfie.

Enjoy Burger King for Cheaper!

Looking for ways to save your cash? Well theshp.net will regularly have just that!  Look out for #shpSaves

In view of that old rivalry between McDonalds and Burger KIng, I have never took a die-hard side either way. I think they both do some things better then the other. However if pushed, I’d say that I prefer some of the food Burger KIng¬†offers, partly down to the fact I much prefer their fries!

I have noticed that many comment that they also prefer Burger King, but find their prices to be a bit more expensive then MccyD’s. Sometimes I think I would agree, other times I think McDonalds is slightly more pricey (look at their Nuggets for example, although admittedly MD’s taste much better!)

McDonalds Meal
Currently McDonalds do not seem to offer any kind of Voucher Apps like Burger King, if they want to compete, may be a smart move to do so.

What I’m sure many of us will agree on: the idea of being able to have Burger King for a cheaper price is an attractive one! And so the King have won this round by having an app that allows cheaper deals!

Download the official Burger King app from either Android or Apple as it gives some genuine great deals. Oh and sorry for now making you very hungry at this moment!

OK, so I have been using the Burger King app for a couple of months now. I have experienced no glitches or fails of any sort with it thus far. I know experience with apps can depend on the operating version and phone you are currently rocking (for reference I have my trusty Note 4 running this app). Update: A fair few people on their systems seem to be having some issues with it not running smoothly, up until recently. Also watch out some branches do not seem to accept the app’s vouchers which is a real shame, I was lucky my local does.

The app is basically used to provide virtual vouchers for your visits to the fast food giant. When you open up the app you will usually be greeted with whatever particular product is the main focus of promotion.

Burger King Home App Screen

So you have a couple of options, we’ll focus on the Vouchers section.

Click Vouchers, and you can see all the current offers that are available, at the moment I have nineteen, so its not just one or two offered. And they regularly top your account up with more (you should get a notification when they do).

All you do to use your chosen voucher is select it, you’ll be notified that once you continue it’ll last 15 minutes, and then show the code to whoever is serving you.

Burger King Voucher App

These are genuine good deals that’ll make your next BK even better value. If¬† the cold weather is not cold enough why not have a Sundae for 50p (in fairness they were offering this in our glorious Summer)? Regular fries for 50p? 99p for 9 nuggets? They have proper meal deals too, for example for just ¬£2.49 you could get a Bacon Double Cheeseburger, Small Fries and a Sundae. Lunch or tea for a bit better value, eh?

Burger King Voucher Screen

Or some vouchers could provide enough to feed two for lunch such as £4.99 getting you a King Chicken, Double Bacon Cheeseburger, Regular Fries and Drink.

So, as long as the app works on your phone, in my opinion its well worth downloading as you should get some tasty savings.
